IMPORTANT

Before starting the installation, i warmly recommend that you have Backup drivers ready, because the OS will not recognize your standard drivers, primarily Network and Graphics drivers.

It is highly recommended you install while you are not connected to the internet. If you’re looking for an easy way to install Atlas onto your USB Stick, Rufus will be your best option.
…….

  • Download Rufus and open the application.
  • Select your device (USB Stick) using the list box at the top.
  • Import your desired .ISO file
  • Select your partition scheme (Most commonly GPT) & Target system to UEFI (non-CSM). If you don’t know if your system is GPT, follow the steps:
    • On your keyboard do WINDOWS KEY + R, when the run box is open, type “diskmgmt.msc” and then disk management will open.
    • Locate your disk at the bottom, right-click on your desired drive and press properties.
    • When the box opens, go to “Volumes” at the top, and you will see “Partition Style” and if it says GPT then you’re good to go. If not you will need to convert it to GPT for the installation.
  • If you want to convert your drive to GPT, follow the steps:
    • Follow our installation process until you’re booted onto your USB stick and ready to install.
    • When you’re on the screen where you can see your drives to install Atlas onto, press SHIFT + F10 and a CMD window will open.
    • Type “DISKPART” and then press enter, after type “LIST DISK” and then press enter.
    • You will see all of your disks, locate the one which you want to convert to GPT, and then type “SELECT DISK {NUMBER}” and press enter.
    • It should respond with saying it’s now selected that disk, when that happens you will need to type “CLEAN” NOTE: It will remove all files on that drive, make sure to back them up to the cloud or onto another drive.
    • When it’s finished cleaning, type “CONVERT GPT” and when it’s finished, you can close the CMD and install onto that drive.

You may be on a BIOS/MBR system, if so select MBR & BIOS in Rufus.

  • You may change the name of the USB Stick using the “Volume Label” option.
  • Keep the default FAT32 file system and 16-kilobyte cluster size. If it’s different to this, change it to that instead.
  • Select START and then wait for it to extract the .ISO onto your USB Stick, this will clear all files.
  • When it’s finished, press WINDOWS KEY + R and then type “shutdown.exe -r -o -f -t 00” and it should boot you to your boot menu.
  • Select your USB device, and it will boot you onto the Windows installation page.
  • Find the drive which has the correct size as your main disk with Windows on, in most cases, it will be DISK 0. Select each partition of that drive (Example: Drive 0 Partition 0/1/2) and press “DELETE”. NOTE: Deleting a drive means you lose all files on that drive.
  • When you’ve deleted all the partitions under your main drive, you will see “UNALLOCATED SPACE”, select this and press APPLY. This will then create a new disk with the full amount of space on your drive, then proceed by clicking next to install Atlas’ files.
  • Follow the installation steps, and you have a fresh installation of Atlas OS on your device.

The amount of post install steps is minimized to make it easy for the regular user.
There is zero need for extra programs/scripts from other communities, in most cases they will only cause issues.
